Skåne European Office in Brussels
The main mission of the office is to strengthen the visibility of the region both vis-à-vis the EU institutions and other stakeholders in Brussels.
Task and priorities of Skåne European Office
The aim of the office is to promote growth and development in Skåne through linking the regional authority and stakeholders closer to European development and policy. The office monitors and reports on EU affairs and strives to include Region Skåne in the political discussions in Brussels where relevant.
Through close cooperation with different stakeholders in Skåne, the office aims to facilitate and foster participation from Skåne in European partnerships. Related to this we offer our home organisation information and advice on EU funding opportunities and programs.
The priorities for Skåne European Office follow closely those of Region Skåne. Most activity is within the EU policy areas of Health and social innovation, Research and innovation, Cohesion Policy and Environment, Energy, Transport and Culture Policies.
Innovation and Internationalisation
Region Skåne has set a goal for Skåne to become the most innovative region in Europe by 2020. Internationalisation has been identified as key to this aim. Through active participation in the Öresund regional development, within the STRING cooperation (with Region Zealand and Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg) and in the active efforts to implement and develop the Baltic Sea Strategy, Skåne invests in cooperation with regions across the borders.
Skåne is also an active member of CPMR – Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions and presently heads its research and innovation workgroup.
As a consequence Skåne European Office works actively to ensure that Skåne can be actively involved in the implementation of the Innovation Union. Together with the universities in Skåne we strive to follow the research and innovation agenda in Brussels. Region Skåne participates since more than a year in the work of the Smart Specialisation Platform. We follow the European Innovation Partnerships closely and are an active partner within the Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing.
The Brussels office is an active member of ERRIN – European Regions for Research and Innovation Network and of EUREGHA – European Regions Health Network. The office has a member on the board of EUREGHA and the network's secretariat is since 2012 and throughout 2013 located within Skåne European Office.
